Interesting how that TV is mounted in portrait mode, instead of traditional landscape mode. Indicates that the viewer expects his video to come from cell phone cameras, operated by non-professionals focused upon selfies?
Science Fiction is ALWAYS a reflection of (the author’s take on) current events. I’ve enjoyed it long enough to recognize that it’s not really a leading indicator of what will happen, but a trailing indicator of what we worry about happening. The stuff I’m seeing now, though… not so accessible to a person of my age. And not at ALL optimistic (if I’m understanding it) about what “we” are becoming.
So yeah, it’s reasonable to suppose that if you watch current SF, you’re likely to get a dystopian view.
But it’s also good to remember that dystopia is in the eye of the beholder: Your utopian rich urban connectivity is my dystopian inability to find myself alone with nature. And vice versa.

Just because you ‘can do something’ doesn’t mean ‘you should do it!’

I’ve never seen a portrait-oriented TV screen. And what’s with the eye-patch?
