From Lynn’s Comments: When an Old English Sheepdog gets covered in snow, he is something to see. Most of the snow finds its’ way to the fur between his toes and it takes ages to pull it all out. I think my dog took more grooming time than my kids did!
I love the magical paint they have in Canada. It is amazing how the laundry room wall colors change instantly from blue to yellow just as the snow covered dog rushes in.
One of my dog loves to roll in whatever he finds interesting on walks while the other doesn’t. Luckily it’s not anything nasty, just something he can smell.
We once had a dog like that. He’d be covered from the weather, either rain or snow, and we’d towel him off in the foyer. Then he’d shake himself, but he didn’t end up spraying water all over the place since he was relatively dry.
In real life: on a rainy day, in our case we had a pile of old towels by the door, and as soon as our dog came in, we covered her with them, and she shook herself out under the towels and there was no spray. I taught her that when I gave her a bath, and it stayed with her all of her life.
In winter, when she got caked with snow, she would lay down by the door, and let the snow melt into those towels. I kept the towels close to the register, just so they would be warm for her. She loved frolicking in the snow, the same as Farley. She was the smartest dog we ever had.

How does a family NOT know who/what is coming in/going out the door?

Farley is going to the dog fights. Maybe the Pattersons can make some money off him.

“No puppy for you!” Is what Elly will say after that.

There was something on the radio about dogs shaking water off of them. A dog can removed 70% of the water in 4 seconds.
By the way, when I was washing the dog, and I didn’t want him to shake, I held his nose.

That’s why a towel should always be kept by the door in a dog’s house
