Sturgeon’s Law at work. We only remember the good shows from earlier eras. There were some real dogs as well… Although I think, in general, real scripts made better television than ‘reality’ shows.
Somewhere I found reruns of “My Favorite Martian”. I can’t believe that I watched that show when it first aired. For the most part it was real stupid, especially the last season it ran.
There is just more to watch today than 60 years ago, so there is lots more opportunity for garbage. That being said, some of the BEST shows ever to hit the airwaves have happened recently… Breaking Bad being a fine example.
In 1961, Newt Minow, Chair of the F.C.C., spoke at a broadcaster’s convention. … I invite each of you to sit down in front of your own television set when your station goes on the air and stay there, for a day, without a book, without a magazine, without a newspaper, without a profit and loss sheet or a rating book to distract you. Keep your eyes glued to that set until the station signs off. I can assure you that what you will observe is a vast wasteland. …
The 1936 Olympic Games were broadcast over the air to those few sets in Europe that could get them. They must have been very interesting to watch out there.
Yep.Social media. Cancel culturalists. Radical idiot lefties. Demmies who won’t tell the truth. Moronic radicals who won’t listen to or consider other people’s opinions or even let them speak (oh, icovered that in radical idiot lefties didn’t I?)

60 years later: If they had been watching all that time (ever since 60 years ago), the change should have been no surprise.

I’ve seen some pretty good stuff through the years and even now. Granted, reality tv is horrible.

That’s what happens when cheap TV becomes one continually really bad episode of “The Twilight Zone”.
