My dogs hate fireworks. Starting yesterday I had to have them all doped up because some local idiots insist on firing off fireworks starting at sundown and extending past 10 pm… despite local laws against that kind of thing. And yes, I called in a few to the sheriff’s office, and yes deputies came around and wrote tickets. Multiple tickets. And yes, deputies will be around tonight and tomorrow night.
And yes as soon as the deputies were out of sight the fireworks started again… except that one deputy hadn’t gone far, and came back, and was very annoyed.
most likely the dogs would not be smiling and conversing, but rather running in terror and shaking in fear so intense that they lose all reason and training. i used to love fireworks… until i got a bunch of dogs and a sheep farm, and learned how devastating all those booms and crashes are to most of them.
Usually we say Independence Day is July 4th, so this is a day early. On the other hand, John Adams thought July 2nd should be the day for celebrating, so maybe this strip is just splitting the difference.
