Calvin of “Calvin and Hobbes” might have given a very imaginative account of his summer vacation and it would have been spelled correctly as he is a very good speller unlike Hobbes the tiger who spells his own name “hobs”.
On the other hand, Calvin’s dislike of homework might lead to him trying something like Red is trying here.
I caught on to this game about the 4th grade and started keeping a Summer Journal, half a page per day, carefully written and checked by my mother for spelling and grammar. I stapled the pages together and turned it in when the teacher assigned that “Busy Work.”
“What I did on my summer vacation. Day 1, what I did on my summer vacation. I went downtown to look for a job. Then I hung out at the drug store. Day 2: I went downtown to look for a job. Then I hung out at the drug store. Day 3….”
Mine was easy when I lived in Queens, as my buddy Patrick and I would go to the NJ beaches (Patrick’s brother Gus would take us) and we went to the NY public library and the museums and other places in NYC. The older people on the subway always watched out for us. I so missed it all when we had to more.

I was joking with my girls one time. I told them, “When writing a paper where you need a specific number of words…‘very’ is your friend!”

Tell them you donated blood this summer. It was a noble cause and good for the community

I used to have to make up a lot of stuff because if I wrote what I really did I’d be grounded.

Funny that I don’t remember ever having this assignment, yet it is a comic staple.
