    I’m sure that getting a job now, at minimum wage, will allow all tenants to be able to pay months of back rent, and all the people with mortgages to be able to pay months of back house payments, this week, or sooner. That is how it works, isn’t it?

    Good thing those people don’t have credit card debt, or are late with utility payments or car payments……nah, better to throw them into the street. Then the economy will really soar.

    There’s a bunch of Turd Reich robots who might want to just shut up for a minute, clean the shiznit out from between their ears (a never ending job for y’all), and consider this – this is just another part of the war on the poor, no matter what y’all think the poor look like. Try living on the average wage where you are (let alone at minimum wage), with rental fees that are 40+% of your before tax income. Try living in an apartment owned by landlords who live out of the area, out of the state, and increasingly more often out of the country. And who figure that if you cannot see it, it doesn’t need upkeep or fixing. Then try dealing with increases in rents of 25+% over the past (maybe) 2.5 years (your income go up 25+%? Well, a few of y’all are vultures feeding off of the poor so maybe). Then deal with pandemic layoffs, back rent (could you live on only ~$1200 every 3 or 4 months?), businesses closings, etc., and none of it by your choice? Now try that with a family. Try living in an area that’s #2 in the good ol, goddam USA in childhood poverty (behind only Detroit). Then y’all just go to church (only on Sunday of clurse) and think of yourselves as good “christians” – I highly doubt you have any inkling of what that word means. Now consider that the hedge fund vultures have been buying up properties at stupidly high rates, and who’s going to pay for that, hmm?, and that it’s more than likely going to make not only another series of rent increases but very likely yet another housing bubble, which will probably hurt almost everybody. And you’re still wasting your time picking on poor people. Suckers, you got sold another load of shiznit by millionaires & billionaires and yet there you are again, chowing down with a spoon in each hand.

    Go on, put all those people on the streets. Do landlords foresee a rush of paying tenants to replace them? If so, what are they smoking, and will it be available at dispensaries?

    The places that are hiring are mainly food service, and grocery stores. People that have worked in offices for their careers and are now in their 50s and 60s would have difficulty handling the physical work load of these jobs. Their previous pay would have covered a much larger rent or mortgage, so now they would also have to move, incurring all of those expenses. As another poster mentioned above, what about the back payments?

    Most of the money that was supposed to go out to people for the rent / mortgage assistance was never sent.

    Many of the employers that collected PPP payments didn’t retain the employees and just pocketed the money.

    The eviction moratorium has been a strain for landlords, especially ones that own 1 or 2 buildings. Spend the money to keep people in their homes, including the landlords.

    At the moment, it’s a sellers’ market for workers. Won’t last forever, but if you’ve been drawing the Covid extra unemployment checks, you have only a month or two to find your next job. I’d jump on it if I were you. You can almost surely get a signing bonus, but you’re better off negotiating for a better salary, flex-hours including (from home), a parking spot, 100% company-paid health insurance… stuff that will keep on giving after the (after tax) bonus is long gone.

    It is very easy to be working full time and even have a second job and have a hard time making rent. Rents here have gone up yearly and this year there is even a bigger bump — $100 or more a month is not uncommon. Salaries have gone up this year, but $1.00 an hour added to a wage that already had employees paying over 2/3 of their paycheck on housing isn’t going to help. It would be nice if it was only those who don’t WANT to work were affected with the simple solution that all they need to do is get a job.
