I broke so many glasses when I was kid. My Mom would have conniptions, and warn me of punishment if I broke them again. My Dad would tell me that as someone who doesn’t wear glasses (like we both did) and was never a boy, Mom didn’t understand how life was supposed to be lived…even by people with glasses. So we had to be patient with her.
It’s too bad that Ralphie Parker wasn’t able to be covered by such a warranty. But “A Christmas Story” took place in the 1940s, before such warranties were common.
