Fact: Every vaccination done to date and those that will be done over the next couple of months, were developed, bought, paid for and distributed by President Trump’s policies and his Operation Warp Speed. Biden did absolutely nothing except to file the serial numbers off of President Trump’s policies and put his own stamp on them. He even went to far as to order the term “Operation Warp Speed” to no longer be used and to replace it with his own term the “White House Covid-19 Response Team”. True to his history, Biden is a plagiarist and credit grabber.
Liar. The Pfizer vaccine was developed without US govt funding; in fact it’s development project began more than three months before Operation Warp Speed was announced. Even the name, “Project Lightspeed,” was announced a month before Operation Warp Speed, whose name was a clumsy bit of plagiaristic one-up-manship ( in Cap’n Kirk’s world, warp speed is the only thing faster than lightspeed.) Biden didn’t just “file the numbers off”; he greatly expanded, for example, the use of the Defense Production Act to provide the needed “infrastructure” to make sure vaccines could be widely administered, eliminating production bottlenecks for things like syringes and freezers. Given that the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine beat everything developed under Trump’s project to market, it’s hard to believe that Operation Warp Speed made more than a week or two difference — it’s not like the US was the only wealthy country ready to buy vaccines! And Trump’s post-election snit, when he gave up serious work on the project and tried to eradicate COVID with a nine-iron, is a major negative.
The grain, the scintilla really, of truth in this cartoon is that Pharma developed vaccines during the last year of Trump’s administration*, in spite of, not because of, Trump’s “leadership”. That money was funneled into the projects was in the form of pre-payment for vaccines. To that limited extent it was a financial source for production. The development and mechanism to produce these novel vaccines occurred years earlier. That was a time when political attitudes were much more realistic and embraced experimental science — instead of vilifying it, as was the case during Trump’s, et al., tenures of the past four years.
