Where I grew up, we had nearly daily thunderstorms during the late summer. We pretty often just put on bathing suits and went out in the rain to run around, splash each other etc. Sometimes, instead, we’d wrap up in tarpaulins and “try to stay dry”… for awhile. It would have been MUCH less fun doing solo.

One summer in the 1970’s I had friends over for a cookout. We sat on the wall eating chili burgers and watched thunderstorms with lightning at all four compass points from us. Marvelous.

Caulfield watches lightning a lot? Could it be that he was originally white?

We went to a Weird Al concert. It was at an outdoor theater and was delayed by a short severe thunderstorm that caused another delay when it knocked out the power. The stage was enclosed so the show went on when the power came back. There was cloud to cloud lightning overhead for the whole show.

Speaking of unpredictable weather, it seems that we may be looking at back-to-back tropical storms/hurricanes along the Texas/Louisiana coast this week.

So you can watch the weather and stay (relatively) dry, God created front porches with porch swings.

Back in southern Illinois my dad and I would sit there on summer Saturday afternoons watching thunderstorms roll in.

I’ve never understood why some people will call a hot day with no clouds or wind a nice day

I call it boring, give me weather to watch

Plenty of thunderstorms here in Madison, Wisconsin, but spaced out about every 2-3 weeks, mainly during the summer. Some friends moved to Seattle, and I was chatting with them after they’d been there about 5 years and asked about its reputation for rain every day, thinking they’d have lots of exciting lightning stories. They said yup, there’s higher humidity and tiny little droplets in the air pretty much every morning, but they had yet to witness a downpour, hear thunder, or witness a stroke of lightning.

We rarely have thunderstorms here. Especially of that magnitude.
