So many things to do, so little time to do them! And he didn’t even mention reading, dancing or making bread or beer!

Very conservatively, that’s at least $10K just in bikes, never mind apparel, running shoes, wet suits, etc.

Frazz is basically saying enough is enough. (Many never get to that point.) What other value could either form of diving add to his already crowded exercise regimen that would bring a new benefit?

“Simple fixed gear”? Is that the fancy way of saying that Frazz does most of his riding on a one speed bike? I didn’t think serious bicyclests were into those.

Yeah, I would choose swimming in an open pool. I didn’t know that was an option, thought.

As a charter member of the “Different Strokes for Different Folks” club, I try to avoid criticizing others’ avocations, hobbies, and forms of recreation. But competitive free-diving is the least fun sounding activity I’ve ever read about.

Hey, me boyo, better start setting aside a little out of each paycheck for those knee replacements that are lurking in your future — say about the time you turn 40 and your knees turn 85.

“Fixed Gear” Bike. Yes! In the late 40s I had a maroon & cream fixed gear balloon tire bike. Mike Wolf [American Pickers] would have loved. When we moved to Allentown PA for my father’s job at a new Western Electric plant, I had a local bike shop change the gear for speed. It was very hard to start up a hill, but once I got going no kid in the neighborhood could keep up with me. In 1950 my father bought me a new Raleigh 3 speed that was all the rage during that time. What a change to have low & high gears to navigate steep hills!

If free diving is snorkeling I’d say that would be his choice.

I can relate. Back before marriage, I biked, ran, sailed, hiked, backpacked, played volleyball. I considered whitewater kayaking and hang gliding but didn’t have the time or storage space. Now all I do is fix my house.

I SCUBA dive, then free dive during my Surface Interval, then go back to SCUBA, rinse off, repeat!
