It would appear that “opinion” has replaced “fact.” Why study anything since my “opinion” matters more than any “fact” I may discover in such study? The “fact” of spiking disease in 26 states means nothing since it’s the “opinion” of the president that such spikes are artificially inflated. As Sam Goldwyn once remarked about a verbal contract, a spoken opinion ain’t worth the paper it’s printed on.
Marvelous send-up—"history is studied mainly through statues". Too true—and no one looking at that magnificent statue of A. Jackson on his stallion would ever guess what an awful person he was and what a disaster as a president.
Yeah. We don’t need statues. That’s what books are for. How hard is it to make Americans read a history book that isn’t Whitewashed? Apparently very hard these days.
