When I was a Kid, we could Never get out hands on colored chalk.
Even the White stuff was tough to get because the Teachers were careful to gather it up after they finished writing on the blackboard.
Most of our parents could not see the point of spending money on something that washed away in the first rain that came along. Which, since we lived in Florida was almost every afternoon around 4:00 PM.
We scratched things we wanted to be “Permanent” into the sidewalk using a chunk of rock.
