My wife and I marries on the 30th of December, and got to claim “Married” for the whole year on our taxes. 3 years later, to the day, our oldest was born, and we got to claim him for the whole year. Sorry, Taxman, not sorry.
I know someone who, after many years of living with his girlfriend, married her (it was a mutual decision) when she got a new job with a great health plan that would also cover him, but only if they were officially “married”.
