I like shopping at brick and mortar stores. Part of the problem is a lot of the time they don’t have the things I went in for!

Back in 2001, I worked on a series of interviews about how people were using the internet. The vast majority of them said they would never buy anything online. How times have changed.

How can I buy locally when all the good stores (like Sears) are closing? there are things I would never buy on line, including groceries but the choices on what to buy local are getting. smaller.

Last fall a report came out that stated Amazon has now captured 5% of all retail sales, which is 50% of the online market. How can online sales be responsible for so many traditional stores closing, when online sales are only 10% of the total, plus traditional stores are also responsible for a sizable amount of those online sales as well?

There’s obviously a lot more to it, but online sales are the most convenient target.

I’m in IT from even BEFORE the days of calling HP to have them ship a floppy with the drivers for a new printer… When the internet just started getting into the consciousness of the country and I could download a driver directly rather than wait a week or more for them to mail me something, I knew it was going to be a really huge thing. My boss at the time laughed at the internet and said it was a fad, and would soon pass…
