So the dream has to stop making sense. The Backstreet Boys CD was the trigger.

I must still be dreaming. I have Bobby Sherman on the CD, the David Cassidy Fan letter before me, and Justin Bieber (sp?) 8x 10 color glossy on the wall. Oh Lord, I’m a greying teeny bopper with a gender problem.

Justin Bieber? Wow. I was in a coffee shop the other day and a mother and 3 kids came in girl 13, boy 11, girl 9. The 9 year old saw some kind of flyer with Bieber on the cover and goes into orbit! “Oh look, oh look, oh look Justin is coming to town, oh look.” So me: to the boy “what do you think of him?, boy “he sings like a girl.” Pause then the 13 year old girl chimes in with “yeah, and he looks like a girl.”

Justin Bieber is talented. I’m not a fan (I’m definitely old enough to be his mother), but I admit he has talent. At 16 he’s got it all. He’s just the newest incarnation of Davey Jones, Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, et al. He’s here, he’ll probably fade (who knows - depends if he matures with his lyrics the way his body will inevitably mature). He’s a kid. Give him credit.

Nope, gblehgocomics. This was written about 11 years ago. It was during the last part of the boy-band era, so the teen (and tween) singing sensations of the day would have been Ricky Martin, Lance Bass, Justin Timberlake, Enrique Iglesias, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Hansen, and 98 Degrees. The Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber were still in Kindergarten around that time.

According to Wikipedia, Justin will be 17 on Tuesday.

I thought he played an excellent lunatic bomber on CSI until he died in a hail of gunfire.

It’s still a bad sign that Jason could sing the Backstreet Boys, even in his sleep.

Ricky Martin, Lance Bass, Justin Timberlake, Enrique Iglesias, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Hansen, 98 Degrees, the Jonas Brothers, Davey Jones, Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, and Justin Bieber. All names that will be remembered forever in the pantheon of popular music. Yeah sure.

When I was a kid in the late 1930s and early 1940s girls swooned over Frank Sinatra as they did over the Beatles in the 1960s. Sinatra and the Beatles ARE names that will be remembered forever in the pantheon of popular music.
