    Makes me wonder if Spaniards in U.S. colleges are shamed for speaking not only Spanish and English, but also Catalan, Basque, Aragonese, Galician, Valencian, whatever is Spoken in Spain.

    Seriously I never knew anyone who was shamed for being able to speak both spanish and english, in fact they were admired if anything.

    At the very least, every child should know Spanish. 1. It is easy to learn, especially if you start young and 2.. once you know any Romance language, the others are easy as well. One caveat: In my town, I was lucky enough to hear it all around me, so my learning was reinforced. Then I took formal Spanish in College and the teacher asked, “How do you say, “Get up!” I raised my hand and said, “Arriba!” She was horrified. “NO, that is MEXICAN. You say, ‘Levantense!” Good grief. Discrimination for Spanish in a Spanish class.

    The Spanish here as the Portuguese, English and French are different from those from the native lands.

    It’s those darned people from all those Mexican countries, they’re so confusing speaking in all those crazy Mexican languages!
