In the Book of Judges, Goliath was one of a group of people called the Philistines, a name derived from the Hebrew word for ’invader ’. After the Hebrew revolt of 70 AD , the Emperor Vespasian leveled the Temple of Jerusalem and renamed the land “Palestine”, after those invaders. The modern Palestinians are calling themselves after a group of invaders.
