I’m with him. Why the hell does my remote have a mute button with a symbol on it? Was “mute” too hard to spell? I’m not even sure what the symbol is — looks like a sideways coffee cup with a line drawn through it. “No spilling coffee?” How does THAT mean “TV make no noise”?

Let’s have a remote with big buttons that clearly state their functions e.g. MUTE, VOLUME, etc.

The first TV remote in my life had seven buttons. Two for the volume, two to switch the channel, two whose meaning I have forgotten, and a button to switch to stand by mode. That was enough. And yes, those had symbols, too.

These comments make me weep for humanity. So basically you’re all saying “I don’t want things to improve” and “I refuse to learn new things because that’s hard”. Kinda painting a bleak future there, chaps :)

Another plus for not watching TV, no need to bother with the remotes.

Back in the 50/60s remotes were simple, as was the tv-3/4 OTA stations and that was basically it. Today the remote controls the DVR/cable box -which means it has to program your recordings, freeze/replay live broadcast, show program guide, number pad for selecting 200+ channels, PIP, last channel flip….

Back in the old times a TV remote was called a kid. “Johnny dear, get up and change the channel.” :)

If it has to be explained to me I don’t want it either….it’s a freaking remote, on and off and channels….that’s it!
