Unless and until we see video of what took place between the time the person asked to use the john and when the cops showed up, this image is out of line.
SB has a nationwide policy. No purchase, no poop. Their restrooms are available ONLY to paying customers, regardless of race, creed, color, age, gender or IQ.
I don’t know, ANDYLIT…I’ve been in many SB to use the can and have never been asked to purchase anything. I think the store manager got scared. Plus, when the real estate guy came in, he was incredulous that his clients were handcuffed and led away.
Since the Starbucks CEO seems to consider this event as a major negative for his company, it really doesn’t matter what we posting here think. A black colleague of mine announced this morning that he no longer will go to Starbucks, as is his right—-and I might mention that he has experienced racism of this sort in a way I never could, so who am I to pass judgement on his decision to boycott. If I were a Starbucks customer, I might join him in such a boycott. Examining one’s biases is painful but necessary.
Folks, there is a rush to justice here. If you web search “starbucks bathroom” you will get a mix of bathroom use denial stories, hidden cameras planted stories, transgender policy stories and left gun in bathroom stories. You’ll need to go past the 10 per page view, but you will see that this has been a “problem” for at least several years.
Men, women, all races, pregnant woman, etc. It is a national policy, not local or specific to this outlet. Since we simply do not know the nature of the conversation between the employees and the bathroom seekers, playing the race card is not appropriate. At least not yet.
If it comes to light that this store ignores the policy based on race, then by all means, put the hammer down. But unless and until, it would be wise to avoid assuming racism.
Lalo missed the mark today. Based on this cartoon, I was expecting to learn the two gentlemen were denied service, which is not the case. While the few known facts look very bad for the manager of this location, the cartoon suggests a systemic racial bias throughout the chain.
We all need to cool down here and stop all legal actions and discussions in the world until Andylit is completely satisfied that things are on the up and up. He is, after all, the sole arbiter.
The black police commissioner is equally at fault. He said his policy for 911 calls to remove a person from a business requires his officers to make an arrest for “causing a disturbance” and “trespass.” No free thinking or de-escalation of the incident allowed. StarBuck$ CEO is just as bad, referring to the unwanted customers as a “situation” a “matter” and an “incident”. The patrons caused none of these.

Every corporation of that size has some idiot employees. I haven’t heard what corrective action has been taken with that employee.

Now see, this problem would never have come up in 1950’s Alabama.

Okay, I have examined the reports.
Starbucks is racist. Burn them all to ground.
