Why would Oaks be hit by light more often than other trees?
Apparently oaks susceptibility to lightening is about water content and height. https://christiananswers.net/kids/lightningtrees.html
Maybe, oak is simply more widespread than other types.
A small part of Virginia extends farther west than any part of West Virginia, but a much bigger part of Virginia extends farther East than any part of West Virginia.
