Exactly right! Ever look at the “Guarantee” on an A.C.? It’s Guaranteed for the life of the compressor. And WHAT IS THE FIRST PART to break on an A.C. 99% of the time?? You guessed it.

I even encountered a boat trailer that had a “Guarantee” that was good unless ANY PART of the trailer was immersed in water!

‘Minds me of the time I stood in line with a bunch of others at the local T-W Cable Co.. I’d compared my modem with the woman’s modem that stood in front of me that had the same problem. I remembered the red ‘x’ next to it’s serial number and after she got her ‘different’ modem, they went out back and brought HER old modem out to replace MINE! I had a lot to say OUT LOUD to the dozen-odd sorts still in line behind me, but b’jezus I made sure that they all got fresh unopened boxes in the replacement of THEIR defective modems. Being in the electronics business and being able to build my own computers, small wonder we couldn’t sue the bastids, but that would be akin to shooting peas against the castle walls back in those “read your contract” days… (sigh)

I had exactly the same gag pulled on me once. Six months later, the company and its parent company (it had just been bought out and the new owner changed all the warranties) were completely out of business. No bankruptcy, nothing. I had a good laugh.
