It’s been a rough day. I got up this morning, put on a shirt and a button fell off. I picked up my briefcase, and the handle came off. I’m afraid to go to the bathroom.

NICE NEIGHBORHOOD:If you dial 911,the police say,“We’ll be right there.”BAD NEIGHBORHOOD:If you dial 911,the police say,“What—you again?”
in high school we had metal detectors, the portable kind, way back in the ’60’s – teachers standing by the door waving them over the students, they kept the change and threw the weapons in a pile. the sound of the detectors going off drowned out the school bell
everybody had to belong to a gang. if you didn’t you fought your way to class or hired a bodyguard for the day
most of us skinny little guys never showered/bathed so that the smell would keep the bigger guys away or knock them out before they could get close enough to hit us
we never carried lunch money, because someone always took it away before we could spend it, but we learned to pack an extra baloney sandwich to hide in our shirt/pants so we had something to eat after they beat us up and took our sack lunch
I could go on but no one ever believes me. besides, it makes me very nostalgic. :)
Our Lady of Broken windows H.S.? They served broken leg of lamb at lunch. They checked you for a knife at the door and if you didn’t have one, they lent you one. The school cheer was censored . . .
