Something that will finally make the establishment care about proper nutrition for the poor and working class, where the vast majority of US soldiers come from? Nah.

Obesity or bone spurs. Take your choice.

Are they really running short, or is that at least partly an excuse, to rationalize the shift to mercenaries? I see articles marking the huge percentage who would be rejected (not only for obesity), but I also see articles indicating that the military is rejecting more people, because the quotas have been lowered. Unfortunately, those are old articles; it’s anyone’s guess where Trump is headed.

How tough do you have to be to operate a drone, anyway?

It was the US Army who started the trend by inviting the soft drinks manufacturers to push empty calories to every GI.

The fact that we subsidize junk foods and not healthy ones is one the main reasons Americans are obese. It should not be a surprise that getting into boot camp for fat teens is an issue.

The bloated military needs to go on a diet. We pay far more for the military than any other country. Keeping the American Empire running to protect capitalism is expensive.

Also we pay far more for medical and get far less than anyone else.

There is a better way to do things.

This was also a problem back in the 60’s and led to the creation of “The President’s Council on Physical Fitness” and the inclusion of mandatory, and Federally funded physical education (aka “gym class”) in middle and high school. Now that’s been watered down at the same time candy and soft drink vendors are allowed to set up vending machines in schools and food processing companies lobby for the inclusion of high fat high calorie processed foods in school lunches. We’re our own worst enemy.

I call bull $#!+. The enemies of the nation who convinced the populace to become fat, lazy, and complacent are US based corporations who are making huge profits from it. US based food manufacturers have engineered processed foods to be both fattening and nearly as addictive as any street drug. Hell, the low fat trend that started in the late 80s/early 90s is a result of the sugar industry trying to hide the fact sugar is more harmful to your health than fat. Meanwhile the entertainment industry profits from people sitting on their lazy @$$€$ in front of the boobtube all night long.

Keep the people fat and stupid so they will not vote and let the politicians use them like cattle.
