I’ve asked this question a few times and I haven’t gotten an answer. YES, the FBI admitted that they should have notified their Miami office. They could have questioned Cruz – then what? Florida allows people to have guns unless they are a convicted felon.
Lisa forgets to mention WHY something isn’t done. She can’t insinuate that doctors and local and federal law enforcement are able to override their bosses who are at the least, sponsored by a gun organization who, like Lisa, pretended guns are not the effect of their personal cause.
BOZHI is sharing lies promoted by Fox. Funny thing is, the story on Fox at least included the statement from CNN that this wasn’t true. Fox did keep the BS in the headline of course.
Doctors can’t help if programs are not funded. If laws hamper and block law enforcements actions they aren’t necessarily going to help in time. Put in characters representing Congress in the cartoon: they voted not to fund programs and to hinder enforcement procedures.
Everyone is wringing their hands that “Something should have been done”. They usually come up short on specifics. If someone at the FBI looked at Nikolas Cruz’s file and decided that he was dangerous; what could they do. CAN someone in this country, legally, put under some form of restraint on the “suspicion” that they might commit a serious crime? The last group who did that was the Nazis.
It is both sad and amusing to read the comments from people on the left. They seem to be constitutionally incapable of objective analysis, even when the price of their failure is the lives of our children.
Yes, Cruz used a legally purchased firearm. However, the reason he was able to buy it, use it, was the direct result of systemic failures having absolutely nothing to do with the firearm.
Local police and health officials had the opportunity and justification to use the Baker Act on Cruz a dozen or more times. 72 hours under observation would very likely have produced results that got put into NICS.
The FBI failed in an epic manner. 1st person direct report of lunatic with guns threatening to shoot up the school. Included name, address, description, etc. The FBI failed to forward the tip to its local office.
Sadly, in most of the rampage killings over the last 15-20 years, the warning signs of a deranged person were IGNORED.
I notice that Ms. Benson has not said anything about the fact that the families of some of the students who have made public statements are now getting death threats for speaking out.
They should have done something. The little Sh*T Nicholas Cruz made terroristic threats.Where I live that is enough to go to prison.Yet no one did a f***^%g thing. The deputy dip that was there may as well have run away.
Sometimes I like what Lisa draws but after today with all of the alt right spewing in here,…. Because I dislike hypocrites immensely!! Because I refuse to argue with people who are so bigoted, so closed minded, that they cannot hear anyting because they’re so busy shouting and yelling their views of the world. Because of all of that, I’m going to boycott Lisa Benson’s cartoons. Bye bye y’all, have fun!

Yes, they should have done something. They should have voted out the GOP who are in the deep pockets of the NRA!

Funny, the group on the right doesn’t have a NRA-loving politician.

One common denominator in all mass shootings is an overabundance of firepower.

What should we have done?
Make guns harder to acquire!
How should we do that?
With forms and background checks and waiting periods!
All excellent ideas, but how does that prevent the crazy person with no history & no record from passing the check & acquiring a weapon?
Ban Guns!
How do we deal with the weapons legally owned by innocent citizens?
Confiscate ‘em!
Shouldn’t we buy them, paying their value?
We can’t afford it!
And what do we tell people who don’t have the tools to defend themselves when they’re threatened?
Tough luck! You must resign yourself to the fact that there are some risks you simply have to accept as an unpleasant fact of life!

Some folks are now calling the AR-15 the “Rubio” since it’s so easily bought in the state of Florida…

Seems that Ms. Benson and RWNJs are not really interested in PREVENTING such tragedies! Nor are they interested in discussing possible solutions.

How about just banning the AR-15, the weapon of choice for school mass murders?

“Cruz passed a background check, which looks at criminal history and whether someone has been found to be “mentally defective” by a court”
Criminal history must include arrests. Police being called does not qualify.

Too bad everyone has such easy access to guns – this didn’t have to happen, but at least someone made good money in that quarter.
