    @brassorchid: oh yes it did. Our mantra when I was an ad rep was: sell the sizzle and not the steak Controlling peoples’ perceptions, i.e. understanding of issues was the goal. Hammer away at the best points available, actual or not, and elide the weaknesses.

    Buttercup did that all last year with the help of the press and won the White House. Now the chaos that is normal to DC has increased until even the most uninformed members of the public cannot deny it.

    @brassorchid: I meant the press in general, which spent so much time either praising or damning Buttercup, they forgot there were other candidates who might have offered a better choice. I say ‘might’ because we never got to see enough about them to learn anything beyond the talking points, which is about has helpful as scanning an outline of a book instead of reading the full text.
