Enjoy your day off (for some) and pick up a presidential biography! Or better yet, a copy of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 and wonder why we keep finding ourselves in this demeaning immigration feedback loop.
I didn’t like the Monday Holiday Bill when it passed in 1968, and I still don’t like having Memorial Day no longer on 30 May. While Veterans’ Day was put back on 11 November in 1977 — and very importantly for this centennial year — I once asked why Congress didn’t make Independence Day the first Monday in July!
I was sure last Monday was President’s Day, because it WAS Mr. Lincoln’s birthday. Then no, today is PD…. I get so confused, but thank heavens I can count on the digital “funny papers” to set me straight!
Congratulations on being the cover of Go Comics. This should really boost the number of subscribers. Do keep up the great work. Funny and educational, the ideal strip.
I like the fact that President Washington got back into uniform and rode at the head of an army to put down the Whiskey Rebellion. First, and so far, only time a Commander in Chief led troops into battle. But, there were no battles. Stories of the time say that the rebels, out of respect and/or fear of Washington, put down their arms and the rebellion fizzled out. In spite of, or because of, Washington’s preeminence as a distiller of the finest whiskey in Mount Vernon, I’ll raise a glass to his honour later today. Ok, it’s later. And sort of OT, Washington was born when England was on the Julian calendar and changed his birthday when they switched to the Gregorian.
Mr. Arthur was by no means the worst president in U.S. history. He assumed the office following James Garfield’s assassination and was ill much of his term. He did push through and implemented much needed civil service reform of the federal government.
What happened to Presidents with facial hair? We haven’t had one since Taft (although I hear Truman grew a beard when he was on vacation and Nixon sometimes had stubble). Some were Great (Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt) others not so much, but better than our present Commander in fool!
Someone ran a questionnaire and it now turns out Trump is viewed as the worst President in United States history. (Buchanan held the title before—lose the Union and you lose all respect.

The “Know Nothing” party weren’t the first nor the last immigrant bashers.
