This one could have been taken straight from Lynn Johnston’s real life with her playing Elly. She worked out of her studio in her house and she has told us in her notes that on many occasions she would be up through the night writing or drawing, so she might not go to bed until the wee hours of the morning. Her dentist husband and children had regular daily schedules with school and his dental business, so Lynn Johnston could easily wake up in the middle of the day and find no one was there.

Don’t question it, Elly. Just enjoy having the house to yourself while it lasts!

In other strips, Elly is portrayed as a type-A person that is pretty much involved with everything. Even if she had let John take care of the early morning stuff, she should have known what was going on.

But I get Lynn is not always trying being consistent with these things…

When you are not fully awake it doesn’t matter what type personality you are. Once I received a phone call when I was asleep. My dear friend told me I spoke like a robot and answered questions in a monotone but no more. I had no idea since none of it got into my long term memory or even short term memory. Too bad there was no way to monitor it to see what was going on in my brain at that time——and what wasn’t activated.

Friday morning I left the house at 5:30 am to go get my son from college. Grueling day, 6 1/2 hours there, hour and a half to have lunch and pack the car, 6 1/2 hours back. Went in and said good bye to my daughter (she did not remember it) and then woke up my wife and told her I would be leaving in a few minutes. She did not hear the garage door opener and our bedroom is over the garage. ;-)

I’m prone to talking in my sleep. Sometimes I slowly come awake, aware that I am carrying on a complete conversation that makes absolutely no sense. Last time I was insisting my husband get his feet in the boat before the alligators bit them off.

But when the family has gone out, there is left a deafening silence. Kind of scary at first, until you realize you can have the sofa all to yourself for just a little while.

A funny bit of business since she has a heavy burden and it is nice when hubby can lift it for a bit.

My husband did this with me before, he’ll tell me something when I’m already in bed asleep and wonders why I don’t remember it in the morning.
