I mean, he already did his own investigation: He asked Putin if Russia had interfered in our elections and Putin said nyet. At least that’s what Trump told everyone. There was no American in the room when he met with Putin.
Much of the delay probably is probably due to the reality that Trump can pardon any federal crimes.
While that kind of obstruction of justice “should” be impeachable all by itself, the GOP has demonstrated that they are Party before Country and can not be trusted to act for the good of the country.
The other delay may be due to actual traitors and their “Handlers” that are working for Russia. If so, Mueller would want to bust the network behind the turncoats as well as the turncoats themselves.
The timeline here is critical. It’s not on Mueller’s list of priorities, but it’s at the top of mine. Be thorough and accurate, Mr. Mueller. Take your time. We need a House and Senate with patriots, not traitors. That will require an election.
Best timeline would be for Mueller’s team to finish up in July-August 2018. Voters will be close enough to see and feel the perfidious slime we have allowed into the White House. Then an electoral rout, followed by a year or so of my impeachment stuff, then the presidential election in 2020.
Then, we have to rebuild our institutions—if the regressives allow it.
Also, President Nixon abused the powers of the presidency by trying to use the FBI against his political enemies or by trying to interfere with lawful investigations by those agencies into his own wrongdoing or that of his subordinates.
Nixon tried to get dirt on his opponents through the IRS and those offenses were part of the (unused) Articles of Impeachment.
Trump has called for the FBI to continue to investigate Hillery and threatened to send the IRS after his enemies.
So the GOP already has grounds to impeach. Their refusal leads them into co-conspirator territory.
I think it is Lisa Benson who cannot tell a goose from a turkey. Mueller is doing his job with quiet professionalism. Unlike virtually every republican in office.
It isn’t the Democrats trying to rush Mueller. Trump’s team has been pretending the investigation is nearly done for a year. Yes, Trump’s goose is cooked, and yes he is a turkey. The recipe is a lot further along than depicted, and that is the elephant whining about how long it is taking.
As long as Mueller continues to follow the long twisty complicated money Trail, he is going to find plenty of evidence to make a lot of serious charges on both the federal level and the state level. If he’s seriously aiming to make these charges stick on the whole network of conspirators, he and his team really need to cover all the bases. The president may be able to pardon federal crimes, but he cannot pardon state crimes. The threat of those unpardonable indictments must be driving POTUS crazy with worry. You can see why he continually manufactures smoke screens on all levels of the political and social stratosphere. As a conman of long-standing, his first instinct is to keep you distracted from what is really happening. It’s the old adage of “Don’t let the right hand know what the left hand is doing”. My curiosity is piqued by the possibility that it could invalidate the entire election. Wouldn’t that be something?

Why does Trump need a lawyer, anyway?

Nothing more to investigate, right?

It’s Trump who wants it over fast. The Democrats don’t mind if it drags out, because every week there’s some new damaging revelation.

Problem is, while time goes by making the case, the administration is busy packing the courts:

This damage could take decades to resolve (if ever).

Lisa, a proper investigation takes time and the only ones who are pushing for it to be over are Trump and his supporters.

Gosh, Ken Starr spent $80 million and 4 1/2 years. Shouldn’t Mueller get the same deference from you “law and order” types?
