I can’t follow the logic that because the people who started the KKK decades ago were members of the Democratic party that this somehow justifies members of the GOP being racist today. “Oh yah! well the GOP is the party of Lincoln and the KKK was founded by Dems. So there!”
My mother votes straight ticket GOP because they are the party of “Christian and Family Values”. Little does she understand that they only talk about those things to get people like her to vote for them.
I suspected something was strange when as kids when we played soldiers, being a Nazi wasn’t as bad as being a “Jap.” The Nazi salute was not a forbidden thing, either, rather casual in mocking some authority figure being overbearing. The SS had the smarter uniforms … and they were cool-wicked. Kids experimented drawing Third Reich swastikas without regard for its connection to serious purpose. There are certain human society weeds that keep popping up, and Nazism (so named in this era) and anti-Semitism are two of the most noxious. Their roots are never completely eradicated from our subconscious natures.
That’s it, boys – we defeated the Taliban! Time to go home, have kids and live the good life! We’ll tell our grand-children about this madness so they won’t think the Taliban is cool, that way , no U.S. President weirdly becomes a terrorist. Right, there is no way “anti-Muslim memes” will be a Taliban thing by the time we’re old. Our generation did a great thing! Now to take a big sip of koolaid and blindly support the Trump party for decades!
@brass.. I hope monuments celebrating traitors and slavery would be taken down. It doesn’t erase anything, much less the sordid side of Amercan history with continuing contemporary ripples. I wish it were as easy as that. I wish you could just take down the statues and everything would be jake. But that’s not the reality. Why would we continue to celebrate a traitor and slaver? Thank goodness most of us think it abhorrent to celebrate slavery and treason.
Yes, we should celebrate the right heroes and virtues, and not the wrong ones. If you don’t know the difference, nothing I can say would change your mind.

I drank the cool aid until 1990. I worked both of Reagan’s campaigns. I am SO sorry.

It appears that Republicans only support hate, corporations and war, no room for the American people apparently.

Don’t blame the “greatest generation” for all this goose-stepping, except for octogenarian Arpaio. Blame their spoiled, entitled children.
