The REPUBLICAN governor of Illinois will not discuss compromise on the budget until he gets his way on his agenda items. He has pushed to cut education, support for seniors to stay in their homes and wants to cripple tourism by closing state museums and eliminating road improvements. All he is really interested in is keeping HIS taxes down. Illinois should have a progressive tax system which would solve many of the budget problems. Billionaires like Rauner and his buddies should pay a higher tax rate than middle and lower income people. He also wants to freeze property taxes which is where school funds come from; again benefiting those with the highest incomes. Changes have been made for Illinois employees to fix the pension problems, but this takes time because you can’t eliminate programs contracted for in the past, especially for those already retired.
.Rauner’s education adviser, Beth Purvis said that the school budget proposal gave Rauner 90% of what he wanted but he is still going to veto it.
.Rauner could afford a tax increase – he has spent TONS of money on commercials for PACs. He created a new position for Leslie Munger (deputy governor) after she lost comptroller election. He had appointed her for Comptroller after Judy Topinka died; she had no experience for that position and there is no need for a “deputy” governor.
.The term limit change that I would like is being proposed in the latest budget – don’t allow members of Congress to keep the same position. Madigan has been speaker for FAR too long. He can keep his seat as long as the people in his district want him, but no one should be in a position of power for that long.
Promises hastily made long ago without proper analysis and improperly maintained (neglected) are no longer relevant ? Our two opposing parties spend way too much time trying to make the other party look bad and we the people get lost in the shuffle.

This is what happens when Republicans run the country. Little dumpster fires all over the country, and one huge one in the white house.
