What was started with the amiable help of Reagan continues with the frenzied help of Trump. Both administrations have served as distracting performances that held the public attention while pickpockets worked the crowds.
Conservative pundit Ross Douthat about Trump: As a populist he’s a paper tiger, too lazy to figure out what policies he should champion and too incompetent and self-absorbed to fight for them.
So he’s not being dogged by leaks and accusations because he’s trying to turn the Republican Party into a “worker’s party” (he isn’t), or because he’s throwing the money-changers out of the republic’s temples (don’t make me laugh), or because he’s taking steps to reduce America’s role as policeman of the world (none are evident).
No, he’s at war with the institutions that surround him because he behaves consistently erratically and inappropriately and dangerously, and perhaps criminally as well.
Oh, and from a different column by Ross Douthat advocating trotting out the 25th amendment: Meanwhile, from the perspective of the Republican leadership’s duty to their country, and indeed to the world that our imperium bestrides, leaving a man this witless and unmastered in an office with these powers and responsibilities is an act of gross negligence, which no objective on the near-term political horizon seems remotely significant enough to justify.
There will be time to return again to world-weariness and cynicism as this agony drags on. Right now, though, I will be boring in my sincerity: I respectfully ask Mike Pence and Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell to reconsider their support for a man who never should have had his party’s nomination, never should have been elevated to this office, never should have been endorsed and propped up and defended by people who understood his unfitness all along.
Now is a day for redemption. Now is an acceptable time.
Now is a very good time to consider that the Founders of our Republic, who NEVER trusted the general populace to make ‘good’ decisions about their political leaders (and therefore kept the selection of Senators out of their hands, directly) were absolutely and provably RIGHT! The American public CANNOT be depended upon to chose their leaders in any discernible sense – rock-solid proof of this sits in the White House, even as we speak. Qualifications MUST extend beyond age and birthplace! When I take my car in for servicing I expect someone to take care of it that AT LEAST knows how to open the hood of the car. We don’t even require THAT level of expertise in our federal elected representatives, for Pete’s sake! Allowing any Tom, Dick or Harriet who has a bone to pick or an ax to grind to run for and be elected to office has finally risen up to bite us in the butt!
Perhaps, the intervonter is confused. It is this maladministration that is practicing crony capitalism to the largest degree ever. Although several Republican presidents are runners up. Making the rich richer. Imagine, wealth created from looting the taxpayer, instead of by industry and trade.

A giant sinkhole has appeared in front of Mar-a-Lago.
Trump has people on the ground looking into it.

This cartoon is not funny at all, but it is the absolute solid gold truth.

Republicans steal all they can from the taxpayer and give it to their rich friends.
