    This kind of highlights my point before that it would be out of character for Alice to write “$400 Please”, on Monday, when she has a tenuous grasp on the letter A alone.

    Petey in a predicament of his own making. He thought she would get the dig right away, say something snarky back, and that would be the end of it. Not only doe she NOT get it, but she makes it into a song and goes marching around the house singing it.. Might she even venture outside before dawn breaks? Then good old dad swoops in to share some much-needed experience, urging his only son to take defensive measures in anticipation of the detonation of this unexploded ordnance. So familial.
