Perhaps it depends on where you live, but those trenches still exist. Our kindergarten just took delivery of several tons of gravel to fill up four of them.

Swings these days are over so much pea-sized gravel, or rubber pads. It’s amazing we lived to adulthood.

Some places are even taking away the swings because they are ‘too dangerous’. Yes, it is amazing we lived to adulthood.
