Sharper Image, wow, that is a name I have not heard in a long time. I think they pulled out of the malls in this part of Florida in the mid 2000s or so. They seemed to have had issue with how Consumer Reports rated some of their products at the time.
All of the stuff that Hodge Podge is talking about is at least as common now as it was in the ‘80s. They’re just not celebrated in mass media. Some of the specifics changed, like mind altering substances. McMansions and enormous SUVs were still in the future.
Now its artificial sex (chat rooms), artificial money (bitcoin), genuine mood stimulants (CBD)……and the last two are just the Kartrashians and the Real Housewives.

Sharper Image still exists. Wikipedia says, “In 2016, ThreeSixty Group, Inc. acquired Sharper Image from Iconix Brand Group, Inc.”
