Tell it! Tell the truth. Someone has to put it in a nutshell. amen, and God help us as this “Independence Day” rings hollow.

Thank God we live in America where we have always stood together and met threats much bigger than this. We realize that the fearful naysayers will blow this out of proportion, but remember, we have conquered far worse than this.

Course a red wing lefty will deny this. They will say that a American ingenuity and industry is not up too overcoming our problems and we should give more power to the government.

Clean up an oil spill? Ah, who made a giant step for mankind? The men and women of this country who work in small and large companies every day. If they can design and build a vehicle built by private companies that can conquer space, why doubt the backbone of America can’t plug an oil leak.

Our government took control. The first thing they did was insultingly refuse help from oil experts from the North Sea. Good move Washington, how long have they been drilling for compared to us? The pres said “the buck stops here”(original, huh?). Well Prez, whens the oil stop. Great presidents have taken on much bigger threats. Too bad we don’t have a great president. Come on Prez, where’s your Manhattan project? Where’s your 8 year countdown to the moon?Hell, you can’t even close down a little base 90 miles from you like you promised the voters. In that same year you promised immigration reform. And that promise about bi-partisan politics, did you forget? Do something about the oil Prez besides blame others (Blaming Bush?). Maybe if you asked the workers and businesses of America we will come through as we always have..

Did Kennedy blame the Republicans or set man on his greatest journey.? I watched that half term Senator say “the buck stops here.” Heard him blame the policies of the previous administration after. ‘Scuse me? What did you say about the buck? Is that teleprompter working?

You might not like lewreader’s politics, and I certainly don’t agree that corporations are what made america great (wasn’t it lawyers, after all), but lew has a valid point regarding leadership and everything obama was supposed to do but failed to do.

i voted for Obama - heck, my 79 year old dad (lifelong republican) voted for him, and I don’t think we’re receiving ANY of the change that was promised.

Lew is right: Fix the problems, THEN blame the predecessor. When the Republicans started pushing back, he should have shifted left, not to the chewy minty-fresh center.

Civil liberties and privacy rights protection? nope. WORSE than Bush.

Close Guantanamo. nope. Keep feeding the flames (and the military contractor complex).

End the war in Afghanistan? It’s been running longer than Vietnam or WWII, and cost MORE than either.

End the war in Iraq? We’ll be there forever. We’re still in GERMANY, for pete’s sake.

Universal Health Care? nope - the Insurance Industry Enrichment Act is more like it.

End the recession? nope - the Banking and Investment Industry Enrichment Act is more like it. There were so many things wrong with this approach I don’t even know where to begin.

Immigration reform? In your dreams.

Lobbyist reform? In your nightmares.

Alternative energy? In your next lifetime.

The irony of all this: the US Citizenry is so fickle and stupid, they will vote for the party which will ACCELERATE the devolutionary processes which are causing these messes in the first place.

American Democracy is on a glide path to extinction (more precisely “controlled impact into terrain”).

Here’s how to solve most of our problems in 180 days: close ALL OVERSEAS MILITARY BASES. Bring all troops home. Spend the savings on cleaning up our messes here. Use that manpower to build roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, high-speed rail, etc etc etc.

THAT’s change I can believe in. Everything else is just bull .

If you actually voted for Obama for the gramatically impaired “Change you believe in”, you should really stop complaining, because the problem is your gullibility, not the gifted lying of politrickans.

I would refute what lew says, but that would require reading through the turgid screed.

I thought it was “Change you can believe in.” I don’t see a grammatical problem. It’s a slogan, after all.

As for Mr. O, he would have to start a civil war to make any major changes. He’s not the type. He’s the same cautious, conservative, hope-something-will-turn-up guy he always was. And if he did try to change things, few would support him, as the medical insurance fiasco showed.

I voted for him because he was “Black”, period. I like the idea of having a Black guy as president. Also, he doesn’t affect sh*tkicker style, which I am pretty tired of in politicians. But change is going to take more than switching masks on the monster.

It doesn’t matter what weapons the Afghani soldiers have, wars of occupation have all gone the same way since Vietnam. The USSR went broke trying to set up their own puppet government in Afghanistan (oh, I know the arms race helped a lot) but the US is engaging in two wars of occupation. I’m going to have to agree with vaporland on this, lets start spending money improving our country instead of pissing it away on overseas operations.

@Lewreader No, Kennedy did NOT blame Eisenhower for the problems he inherited, mainly because Eisenhower was a competent leader, not “someone you want to have a beer with.” Roosevelt? Heh, right. You betchur bippie he blamed Hoover for the Depression.

The Bush administration @#$%ed a lot of things up very badly. So badly, in fact, that it might seem shocking to most Americans that it has taken (and will take) more than one season of Jack Bauer having a bad day to clean it up.

I’ll be fair, though, and give credit to Clinton for some of his deregulating efforts, and of course, Reagan and Bush I for their philosophy of letting foxes guard the henhouses.

The terrorists fight with a lot more sophisticated stuff, as in rockets, homemade explosives, and assault rifles, courtesy of one of the Bushs, to bin laden, who was at that time seen as a hero, to drive out Russian forces.
