    How prescient of Pinky to provide for his own living memorial. Unfortunately, “The Pinky Gardens” doesn’t have much of a ring to it.

    yyyguy, this was “long before” Red had Rover – why wouldn’t a five-year-old (or so) name his hamster “Pinky?”

    Red named the hamster “Pinky” because that’s the color hamsters are at birth. Pinky was based on my sister’s hamster in 1962, “Boopie.” Pinky was one of Boopie’s babies.
