Long before you came into my life, I had a hamster named Pinky. Pinky could store more sunflower seeds in his cheeks than any other hamster on earth. When he passed away, I buried him here. How very appropriate, amongst the sunflowers. There weren't any sunflowers when I buried him.

How prescient of Pinky to provide for his own living memorial. Unfortunately, “The Pinky Gardens” doesn’t have much of a ring to it.

yyyguy, this was “long before” Red had Rover – why wouldn’t a five-year-old (or so) name his hamster “Pinky?”

Red named the hamster “Pinky” because that’s the color hamsters are at birth. Pinky was based on my sister’s hamster in 1962, “Boopie.” Pinky was one of Boopie’s babies.

Ever the articulate Rover: “…amongst the sunflowers.” I doubt if Lassie ever said anything as poetic.
