    Beni is so Shakespearean! The description of the terrible off-stage action is all the more impactful because it forces us to imagine the horror—and our imagination is always more horrifying than anything that could be shown onstage (unless perhaps Titus Andronicus).Well played, Madeline!

    Alas, kids at that age really can’t be reasoned with. You just have to lay down the law.

    You can’t start reasoning with them until they’re older— just about the time they start talking back, and you WANT to lay down the law. IME.

    I am so impressed by Beni’s abilities. He clearly has a great capacity for empathy, and a highly sensitive, possibly musical, ear. Also glad to see Dill hasn’t been traumatized to any lasting extent.
