Young Tia Carmen: Hola, Gregorio! Gregorio: Carmen! How are you today? Gregorio: Wait! Don't tell me! You're as wonderful and beautiful and charming as ever! Tia Carmen: You sly old rascal! Gregorio: Carmen, I'm insulted... Gregorio: That you would call me old.

I went back some and see no mention of a flashback. The byline is the same two names. Carlos Castellanos is listed as the artist. ?????

Did some research and discovered that our creators often invite guest artists usually on Sunday to do the strip. I cannot see any credits for another artist here. They have a blog at: http://baldocomics.com/blog/

I think this is one of the “imagination” segments where the participants envision themselves as more attractive. When Baldo does it, he’s quite a hunk.

I thought I had been dropped into Mary Worth land.

Sometimes Tia Carmen sees herself as a little girl. Today, she sees herself as beautiful and charming the way Gregorio wants. I guess we all do that from time to time. Sometimes I see myself with hair….

The creators sometimes do this, to wonderful effect – instead of the stylized “cartoon” style, they switch to what their characters would look like as real people, usually in intense or romantic situations.
I think this is what Tia Carmen would actually look like if you met her, and the same for the others…the “cartoon” style reflects how they think of themselves, and each other. It’s brilliantly done.

maybe tia carmen saw that TV show, “first love second chance” and started thinking back to her younger days

They did this a while back with Tia Carmen’s (imagined?) love life. Or perhaps this is a repeat of that series.

Looks like the artwork from La Cucaracha’s “Mex Morgan, M.D.”

It’s all in Tia Carmen’s mind - Hector and Carlos have done this several times… sort of a “Baldo’s Fantasy Island” if you will. Tia Carmen is usually but not always the subject. They’ve also shown the “real” Gregorio… and “old” doesn’t begin to cover it…

Oh dear! Tia Carmen got blushful. And of course, she giggled shyly.

SCAATY_423 is exactly right. This is what Tia Carmen actually looks like; the usual drawings are, hello, cartoons.
