The land grant colleges were originally created to allow people to get an advanced education at a reasonable cost. Now they all try to be world famous research centers with most of the money going to self promotion and high priced, do nothing professors. I think the state institutions should be forced to go back to their roots and have cost effective education as their primary mission.
Ted makes a very good point. I went to Iowa State—a land grant college—had to take ROTC, supported a poor football team, and tuition was $77 per quarter. That was only 50 years ago.

I suggest a career as a plumber or HVAC technician. You’ll make more money and won’t have a useless degree or massive debt to pay off.
