Hey Charlie Brown, ball point pens started selling in the US in the 1950s. Give one a try.

I remember being in school at about this time, and we were using cartridge pens with liquid ink. Ball point pens were verboten.I think it was a couple of years before the release of the BiC pens.

The first Bic pens were sold in 1945 following the founding of Société PPA after WWII, but it wasn’t until the ‘50s that they really took off with the introduction of the Bic Cristal ballpoint pen (deigned between 1949 and 1950 and introduced in 1950). Ballpoint pens actually date to the late 19th century, initially being designed and patented by an American leather tanner. But due to manufacturing costs and inability to evenly distribute ink, the early ballpoint pens didn’t take off in popularity until the second half of the 20th century.

If you enlarge things and look between the second and third panels, the copyright on this one is 1967.
