Guys riding racing electric motorcycles are actually faster than the gasoline powered! Acceleration is quicker, and stronger than the response from a gasoline engine. But yes, for gearheads, the sounds would be missed.
Do you creep up behind them and honk the horn?Bet some of them thought the car was coasting on its own.(did that as a kid when I took the family car out of gear and it rolled)
Seems there’s a country yokel on this site who is totally ignorant of high tech and up and coming tech...A friend and I were trying to develop a hybrid car back in the late ’70’s using an engine that could use multiple types of fuel that would run at one, highly efficient speed, to power (charge)the battery pack which the electric motor (at that time I believe the most efficient commercial motor we found was a jet engine starter motor) would run from.We calculated we could get 73 miles to a gallon of fuel giving us a minimum 560 mile driving range.Could not get enough investors and with lawyer fees from lawsuits brought by several interests who did not want us to succeed we finally just gave up the endeavor.
So, you are going to burn fuel to create the energy to charge the electric car. There is no less environmental impact. And the batteries will eventually wear out and we will have to dispose of them, along with the acid. That is more negative impact. Why do we want this?

Next they’ll put an electric slot in the track for the cars to follow…

I got totally smoked by a Tesla, leaving a traffic light earlier this year. Those puppies have faster pickup than just about any other American car.
