Now, children, what lessons have we learned? None, just like the last time? Splendid! Now it’s time to do the true business of Washington: solicit funding. Governance? How quaint.
Good comment, Michael. I’ll avoid the book though, I think we may well see the ‘month’ that transitions occurs in a decade or so.As long as our subs can’t be traced, we’re safe. If that changes, the game changes to China’s favor, especially since we’re paying them so much for products and interest payments they can afford to court other nations and build their military while we decline on the foreign scene and our young people are too unhealthy or uneducated to do the high tech jobs the military needs. Not a good scenario.Respectfully,C.
That notion of U.S. world standing having gone over the cliff is pretty much accurate. The U.S. has many natural advantages – geography, resources, agriculture, climate – and they are allowing a few extremists to blow it. Government structure may be at fault. The self-proclaimed self-righteous Patriots like to tout the Constitution as being the greatest political document devised by man, under direction of God. Did God screw up? Maybe he could do some tweaking!
Excuse me? All these anti-Tea Party comments are made by the modern know nothings. They know nothing but never miss a chance to expound. A lot like Obama. As I recall, interest on the national debt is the first thing that must be paid and it is a mere fraction of daily revenue for the US government. That doesn’t sound like a “default” to me! And issuing new debt to roll over maturing debt adds nothing to the national debt. What would be reduced is discretionary spending…and of course, we can’t have that!
As for the shutdown: Face it. Obama and Harry Reid caused the shutdown by not voting for (or signing) the spending bills approved by the House. They own the shutdown.
Actually the american people need to grow some and start pressuring their elected public servants to put our spending on the internet for everyone to see. This was Obama’s promise of a “transparant government” that everyone forgot about. Actually it was an idea that Obama lifted from Mike Huckabee, but one of the best ideas that has come along in decades.

Don’t worry, US. The world knows that it’s just the republicans and the tea-party crazies.

“We have to get something out of this but, I don’t know even what that is.”
Neither do we.

I think that Obama is humble enough that he wouldn’t want more than two….

Oh yes, because the shutdown was HIS idea. There’s a difference between ignorant and stupid, by the way. Thanks for the demonstration.
