Too bad the strip is only three panels. I’d love to see what happens next.

As she has watched the styles change over the years since her wedding, she probably laughs at those older styles by now herself. I have plenty of friends who look back at what they used to wear or how they wore their hair (both male and female) and get a big chuckle out of pictures from the era when they were dating or just married.

I’ve never seen bridesmaids dresses that didn’t look ridiculous. I think you’re right Dr Toon. And that they have to pay for it themselves knowing they’ll never be caught dead in it again, (and hating that they will be caught alive in it once) is sort of insulting on the bride’s part. My husband and I didn’t have a traditional wedding but if we had I would have tried to be more sensitive than that.

Well, at least if they were bridesmaid dresses, if you can find one, you won’t have to make a new one.

At my wedding, my bridesmaids wore sundresses that they got at Mervyn’s. Our colors were cobalt blue and ivory and these were sort of cream colored linen with eyelet holes and looked quite lovely. Best of all, I knew they were dresses they would wear again. Bridesmaids’ dresses don’t HAVE to be monstrosities or expensive.

I don’t think Adam is insulting his wife. He’s not talking about THEIR wedding. He’s talking about the bridesmaid dresses she had to wear in other people’s weddings. (Otherwise, he’d say “your mom’s bridesmaids’ dresses”)

@Macuschlalondra My mom sewed all of my bridesmaids’ dresses (in addition to my wedding dress - she was an excellent seamstress.) My parents paid for the fabric & everything. The only thing the bridesmaids had to provide was a pair of shoes, and I didn’t make them get matching shoes (long dresses), so they were reusable. The only wedding where I was an attendant, was my sister’s wedding, so my Mom sewed that dress too. I never thought it was fair to expect the bridesmaids to pay for dresses they wouldn’t want to wear again.

I fail to see how Adam’s comment is rude. I think you people are reading something into it that isn’t there.

The problem with the dresses is that too many brides think of it “their” day and insist on a fairy tale wedding. Parents need to teach their kids to have realistic expectations.
