What we are seeing is that when we let one or more psychopaths get and exercise power, e.g. Trump, Netanyahu, et al., our unwillingness or inability to shut them down gives “permission” to others, ones that would normally “stay hidden”, to expose and exercise more of their own psychopathic repertoires to the detriment of healthy society generally. As you note, the media has a lot of responsibility for these changes.
That’s how psychopaths are – no conscience. They kill without hesitation or remorse to benefit themselves, and then they blame someone else, usually their victim.
