Charles Williams is the man! I love him but what a freak! Descent into Hell has a man climbing down a rope. Could you be mixing that in with something else?
It’s not his best novel but The Place of the Lion is the one that transformed Lewis’s imagination. I’ve read THS a bunch too and love it.
