Charlie Brown: I never know what’s going on. . .
I know Snoopy has, because there’s quite a long arc about how he owes her like $0.20 for unpaid sessions. I won’t spoil any more of it, but it’s a good one.
In a later strip, Snoopy climbs a tree to retrieve Linus’ blanket after it was thrown up there by Lucy. He says to himself, “Why am I doing this? Dogs can’t climb trees”.
To Schulz, if it were otherwise it wouldn’t be funny. Much like he thought letting Charlie Brown kick the football wouldn’t be funny.
The comic book series by Kaboom! is still going on, I believe. They contain a mix of new content and the old strips. IMO it’s very faithful to the strip as some of the artists and writers worked with Schulz.
Schulz evidently like the gag because 20 years later in “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,” Sally says “But I haven’t even finished all my Halloween candy yet!”
He’s clearly got some special abilities, since later on he’ll be able to blow square balloons.
Minnesota may not have oceans, but it does have 10,000 lakes!
Seems like I can remember Charlie Brown’s team blowing a few games in the 9th. But most of the time they were down a few dozen runs by that point.
I wonder if Charlie Brown is referring to the trip he took to the national spelling bee in the movie “A Boy Named Charlie Brown,” which came out a couple of years before this strip. Probably not since it happened outside the strip, but an interesting coincidence.
