If this were Peter S. Beagle’s “The Last Unicorn”, all the class would see is a pretty but otherwise unremarkable white horse. And hear “Neigh” instead of “Yes, I am now friends with” etc.

That’s actually the traditional tail for a unicorn. That’s the way it appears on medieval tapestries. Good for Dana for portraying her unicorn in that way – as opposed to the kitschy horsie-with-a-horn-tacky-gift-shop type of unicorn. Marigold is much more appealing that way, in my opinion.

Maybe the unicorn was just fashionably late…

Dana, I just want to say – this strip is absolutely wonderful. It’s a breath of fresh air and boasts a funny and imaginative twist on unicorns while preserving the unicorn “mystique”. I congratulate you on its conception, and I fully expect it to become a huge hit. And oh, forget the comparisons some are making to “Calvin and Hobbes” and what have you. Children who have magical or imaginary companions is a concept that’s been around for eons. It’s nice to see a new and funny version of it in the otherwise-staid and stale syndicated strip form. Count me as a faithful reader. Kudos!
