Those of us with typographic backgrounds may recognize “nonpareil” as a six-point characteristic.

I’m coming around to the idea of just giving away a lot of my Stuff, but something in me is still hoping for “good homes” for some of it.

“. . . why aren’t they [student protesters against Israel’s war on Gaza] also protesting Russia’s war with Ukraine?”

I expect that many of them are. But the US is already on Ukraine’s side. The protesters are protesting US backing of Israel’s war.

“EVERY Vietnam vet has my unwavering respect for what they were FORCED to do.”

“FORCED”?? Except for the ones who resisted becoming killers and being themselves killed—the deserters, the draft dodgers, those who stood up and disobeyed orders, and so on. Is there no such thing as personal responsibility?

Personally, I prefer the coffee milkshakes to “straight” coffee.

Didn’t know about FOB’s cover—thanks for the tip.

Only in The Book of Taliesyn hard-rock phase. Couldn’t believe that any band could rock “Kentucky Woman” or “River Deep – Mountain High” even better than the originals.

I’m currently in the process of moving to a smaller place, and included in the Stuff I have to jettison is about 30 linear feet of vinyl, most of which I haven’t listened to in several decades. I’ve ripped some of the vinyl, and lots of my CDs, into my own playlists, and also use YouTube (at this moment playing the 1812 Overture, as per @landyk’s suggestion), but going through the vinyl I see lots records out of which I want to save a track or three to add to my playlists.

The main “estate broker” guy who’s helping me get rid of my Stuff suggests that all my music-listening needs could be met with a streaming service like Spotify, but I’m skeptical. I listen to music in my car (I’ve made CDs of my various ripped playlists), and I can’t really see driving listening to music funneled through my cell phone, driving up my Data charges. Ripping music from vinyl through Audacity takes a fair amount of time. I gather that there are a few digital-music stores (not streaming services), and that these might be the solution.

(I used to be a hi-fi buff, but now I hear through hearing aids (possibly the result of having been in the fourth row at a Who concert), so the fact that .mp3s have less fidelity than vinyl-high-quality audio is less important than it used to be.)

“Trump is terrified to debate Biden. . .”

I doubt if Trump is actually aware of his own failings—I believe that he actually does believe that he’s a “stable genius.” As Orr says, “How can he see he’s got flies in his eyes if he’s got flies in his eyes?” (As you suggest, some of his handlers may understand him a bit better than he does himself.)

I agree. IF TFG had said something like, “There are fine people on both sides on the issue of removing statues of Confederate generals,” I don’t think that many people would have had much complaint. But he didn’t—he was specifically referring to “fine people on both sides” at the Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally.

“The Unite the Right rally, also known as the Battle of Charlottesville was a white supremacist rally that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, from August 11–12, 2017. Marchers included members of the alt-right, neo-Confederates, neo-fascists, white nationalists, neo-Nazis, Klansmen, and far-right militias.” —Wikipedia article on “Unite the Right rally”

(Sounds like Hedley Lamarr’s recruitment drive for his posse)
