When there is nothing else to talk about, no action, no plot movement…all that is left is to find fault with whatever little remains…usually how this strip deviates from reality. It is not and never was intended to be realistic. It is a fiction which takes place in a fictional universe—like a James Bond film, where realism should not be an issue…and it wouldn’t be if there was pace and action in the actual story.

If a joke has to be dissected because it didn’t seem realistic enough (what jokes are?) then it was really never that funny in the first place.

We’ll see, but likely the latter.

In the previous 2 threads I have listed 3 times things that were being suggested that have already been done. You are waiting for another episode of Rikki and Fata.

Is anyone starting to see the repetition of repetition here?

The gag is pretty out-of-place considering this is the beginning of a new story with a new (albeit recycled) villain. But if you are going to insert a gag, know when the gag is over. The punchline to B.O. winning a car was the sight gag of seeing yesterday that it was the Batmobile and he didn’t know what he had. Today diminishes anything that was funny about the original gag by hammering a dead horse.

Flattop’ Jr.’s car was driven by Silver Nitrate and Sprocket and crashed into a lake. It was waterproof and was simply driven out of the water on the other side. Look at the DT strip on March 16, 2014.

Look at the DT strip on July 26, 2020 for the one-time appearance of a character (not Roddy McDowell’s version) called The Bookworm.

Look to the Mr. Memory tale for Victor Buono.

Even Ogden Nash or Shel Silverstein couldn’t parody this.
