    Agreed. In a forest, there is never no one around. We seem to forget there are other beings in a forest that can hear — birds, squirrels, rabbits, deer, bears and other mammals, millions of insects, etc. So if making a sound requires a hearer, then yes, the tree makes a sound.

    I’ve always considered Darryl’s nose as just a comic strip exaggeration. Nobody in the strip actually looks like a normal human being. Take a look at Wanda’s and Zoe’s noses. Have you ever seen the like of either nose on a real human?

    But she does this to him on a regular basis — dragging him to puppet shows, or “antiquing” or other activities he won’t enjoy and do not require his presence. I think she just likes making him miserable.

    I have a friend who used to do a one-man Mark Twain show. One of the great lines was “There is a distinct difference between the taste of a watermelon that is purchased and one that is acquired… by art.”
